From January 2000 to May 2001, while Damascus diligently and prayerfully searched to fill its vacant pulpit, Dr. O.J. Moore functioned as interim pastor. Dr. Moore was a Godsend. He faithfully, with integrity and character, discharged the duties of Interim Pastor until June 2001.

On June 10, 2001, the Damascus Church Family called Minister P.J. Oliver to serve as the second Pastor of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Oliver the Leadership Council was formed, the church Mission Statement was established, the Church Constitution was revised, and a Spring Christian Education Institute was launched.

From February 2004 to October 2005, while in the process of seeking Pastoral Leadership, Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, Pastor Emeritus – Mount Zion Baptist Church (Seattle, Washington) , served as our Pulpit Supply/Consultant. Also Sister Mary Bogan, Teacher-Leader for the Seattle Bible Study Fellowship, led us in our midweek Bible Study.

On November 6, 2005, Reverend James P. Broughton III was called to serve as the third Pastor of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Broughton was born and raised in Oakland, California. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Bible and Theology from San Jose Christian College in San Jose, California. He received his Masters Degree in Biblical Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in Seattle, WA. Pastor Broughton is married to the former Tammi M. Tucker and the father of twin daughters, Dominique and Cymone.

Some of Pastor Broughton’s strengths include: Godly wisdom with a good grasp of God’s Word; Effective and exciting preaching and teaching ability; A man of honesty, integrity, humility, and warmth; An effective communicator with a positive leadership style who is committed to serving the elders, youth, and families as the Spiritual Leader/Under Shepherd of the flock.
